If a user has a large volume of data and needs to transfer it between applications then a CSV file is often used. The CSV file uses the comma character to separate the data (although other characters can and are used). Structurally a CSV file is fairly simple. It is this simplicity which makes them so powerful and popular because you can easily export and import data into other programs such as Microsoft Excel or the Notepad application.
Many applications have an import wizard that a user can follow which then enables the data to be displayed in an organised and clear way.
